Vaginal Electrical StimulationCan vaginal electrical stimulation (VES) be used to treat sexual dysfunction in women? Maybe, researchers say, although its effectiveness as a monotherapy isn’t totally clear.

VES is one of many techniques used in pelvic floor physical therapy.

The pelvic floor muscles support the organs of the pelvis. Normally, they work together to promote healthy bladder and bowel control. They also help with sexual function, especially arousal and orgasm.

But like other muscles, pelvic floor muscles can weaken. Patients are often referred to therapy for incontinence, constipation, and pelvic pain. The treatment can also help with sexual disorders such as vaginismus and premature ejaculation.
