With that in mind, most patients don’t need to be concerned, the team suggested in a research letter published in September in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. The odds of having a heart attack after sex are low.

The researchers based their conclusions on a study of 536 heart disease patients between the ages of 30 and 70. They asked the participants about their sexual frequency before their heart attack. They also followed the study subjects for ten years, taking note of any further cardiovascular events, such as a fatal heart attack, stroke, or death from heart disease.
