John P. Mulhall, M.D.

John P. Mulhall, M.D.John P. Mulhall, MD, is Associate Professor of Urology, Director of the Sexual Medicine Program, and Director of Sexual Medicine Research Laboratory at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York Presbyterian Hospital, in New York City. He has a joint appointment in the Department of Urology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), where he is an Associate Attending Physician, is the Director of Male Sexual Health and the Co-Director of the Sexual Medicine Program at MSKCC.

Dr. Mulhall received his medical degree from University College Dublin Medical School in Dublin, Ireland. He completed his urology residency training at University of Connecticut Health Center, and his Sexual/Reproductive Medicine & Surgery Fellowship training at Boston University Medical Center.

Dr Mulhall directs the Sexual Medicine Research Laboratory at Cornell Medical Center and his basic research interests include defining the pathobiology of Peyronie's disease fibroblasts and erectile function preservation in cavernous nerve injury models. His clinical research is currently focused on predictors of post-prostatectomy erectile function recovery, pelvic radiation associated ED, penile structure imaging, as well as the design and conduct of drug trials in sexual medicine.

Dr. Mulhall has more than 100 papers published in peer-reviewed journals, and has authored the book Contemporary Management of Urologic Emergencies, as well as many book chapters. He is editor-in-chief of the review journal Current Sexual Health Reports. He serves on the editorial boards of The Journal of Urology and the Journal of Sexual Medicine, and he is a reviewer for many other sexual health and urology journals.

Dr. Mulhall serves on the Board of Directors of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America. On the standards committee of the International Society for Sexual Medicine he is Co-Chairman of the subcommittee on Standards in the Surgical Management Of Male Sexual Dysfunction.

Dr. Mulhall is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Career Development Award from the Veterans Administration (1998), the Robert P. Nelson Award from the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (2001), a Young Investigator Award (2000) and the Jean Francois Ginestie Award (2002) from the International Society for Sex and Impotence Research (ISSIR, now ISSM). In 2005 he was honored with the Gold Cystoscope Award from the American Urological Association.
