Nuts Might Boost Men’s Sexual Function

Nuts Might Boost Men’s Sexual Function Men might have more sexual desire and better orgasms after adding nuts to their diet, new research suggests.

The study, published in June 2019 in the journal Nutrients, showed sexual improvements in men who ate 60 grams of raw nuts daily in addition to a traditional Western diet.

Researchers compared two groups of men between the ages of 18 and 35. For 14 weeks, 43 men ate 60 grams of walnuts, almonds, and hazelnuts along with a western diet. Forty men ate a western diet without any nuts.

A western diet is high in animal fats (such as red meat) and low in fruits and vegetables.

The men also filled out a questionnaire called the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF). The IIEF assesses several aspects of men’s sexual health, including sexual desire, orgasms, erections, intercourse satisfaction, and overall sexual satisfaction.

After analyzing final IIEF results for the two groups, the researchers found that men who had consumed nuts had better scores on the orgasm and desire domains. But there were no significant differences in scores for erections, intercourse satisfaction or overall satisfaction.

Do these findings mean men should start eating more nuts? Not quite. The authors explained that further research with larger groups of men are needed to confirm the findings and discover why they occur.

However, following a healthy diet is always a good idea. Eating right can lower your risk for diabetes, heart disease, and obesity – three conditions that contribute to erectile dysfunction (ED). Ask your doctor about the best nutrition plan for you.

The study was partially funded by the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC).
