Active Membership is open to any MD, DO or PhD who:

• Resides in the United States or Canada, and
• Has interest in practice and/or research in sexual medicine.

- Active membership includes membership in the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) and electronic subscription to the JSM and SMR journals. 

Affiliate Membership is open to any MD, PhD, RN, Physician's Assistant, MSW, LCSW, or other health care professional who:

• Resides in the United States or Canada, and
• Has interest in practice and/or research in sexual medicine, and
• Has/starts a small entrepreneurial business related to sexual medicine but maintains the majority of their work as a clinician or researcher in the field of sexual medicine.

*Affiliate membership includes membership in the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) and electronic subscription to the JSM and SMR journals. 

*Affiliate members do not have voting privileges and may not be elected to the Board of Directors or serve as Officers of the society.

APP/Allied Health Membership is open to any Advance Practice Provider (APN/PA), Allied Health Professional (LPN/LVN/RN, Technician, Medical Assistant) Social Worker (MSW), or other health care or research professional who has completed their terminal degree and training, with:

• Resides in the United States or Canada, and
• Has interest in practice and/or research in sexual medicine.

* APP/Allied Health members can opt-in for full society benefits, including ISSM membership, access to the ISSM Journals, and a discounted rate for the ISSM meetings, for an additional fee.

Corresponding Membership is open to any MD, PhD, RN, MSW, LCSW, Physician’s Assistant, or other health care professional who:

• Resides outside the United States or Canada, and
• Interest in practice and/or research in sexual medicine.

*Corresponding membership does not include membership in the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) or access to the ISSM journals.

*Corresponding members do not have voting privileges and may not be elected to the Board of Directors or serve as Officers of the society.

Mental Health Membership is open to any professional that is licensed, certified, or registered to provide mental health services. This includes but is not limited to psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, therapists, or counselors. To be eligible for mental health membership, a person must reside in the United States or Canada and have an interest in sexual wellbeing and sexual health.

* Mental Health members can opt-in for full society benefits, including ISSM membership, access to the ISSM Journals, and a discounted rate for the ISSM meetings, for an additional fee.

Senior Membership is open to any:

• Fellow, Active, Affiliate, or Corresponding members who is 64 years and older with 10 years or more of good standing in SMSNA. 

*Senior membership does not include membership in the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) or access to the ISSM journals.

*Senior members may not serve as Officers of the Society.

Resident/Student Membership is open to individuals who:

• Are currently enrolled in a school of medicine, psychology, nursing, or other health care field, or
• Are currently enrolled in a residency program in urological surgery or other field related to practice and/or research in sexual medicine.

Verification of Student/Resident Status

To qualify for Medical Student/Resident membership, you must provide proof of your current status. Acceptable forms of verification include:

• A valid student/resident ID with a current date
• An enrollment letter
• A current school transcript
• A letter or email from your institution’s registrar or program administrator (on the institute's letterhead)

Membership Details

• Medical Student/Resident membership includes student membership in the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM), with access to journal subscriptions.
• Medical Student/Resident members do not have voting rights, may not be elected to the Board of Directors, and cannot serve as Officers of the Society.

Important Note

Resident/Student membership is not available to Training or Research Fellows. Fellows should apply under the Active Member category.
