Scientists Explore Web-Based Educational Tools for Young Adults with Cancer

Adolescents and young adults with cancer could benefit from a web-based tool that helps them learn about sexuality and fertility, new research reports.

Cancer patients often face sexual problems, including low libido, trouble with orgasm, vaginal dryness, and erectile and ejaculatory disorders. They may also worry about their ability to have children in the future. While all of these concerns can be distressing, healthcare providers don’t always address them.

The study, published last summer in the journal Supportive Care in Cancer, aimed to determine whether cancer patients would be interested in using a web-based tool to learn more about sexuality or fertility, if such a tool would be easy to use, and if it would be effective in a preliminary trial.
