Sexual Counseling after Heart Attack

Jan 27, 2015

Sexual Counseling after Heart AttackIs it safe to have sex after a heart attack? Many patients and their partners have this question. But doctors usually don’t discuss these concerns with younger patients, according to a recent study.

Researchers from the United States and Spain pointed out that about one in five heart attacks happen to people between the ages of 18 and 55. But little was known about the type of sexual counseling they received from their doctors.

The scientists collected data from 3,501 hospitalized patients in 127 medical centers in both the U.S. and Spain. About two-thirds of the patients were women. The participants’ median age was 48 years.
