Vitamin D and Erectile Dysfunction

Vitamin D and EDMen who have low levels of vitamin D might be more susceptible to erectile dysfunction (ED), according to researchers from Italy.

Vitamin D is essential for good bone health, as it helps the body absorb calcium, an important component of bone development. Vitamin D is also involved with muscle movement, nerve signals, and the immune system.

Past research has found that vitamin D deficiency can affect the health of endothelial cells, too. These cells line the insides of blood vessels. For men, this could lead to erection problems. If blood flow to the penis is impaired, a man will be unable to get or keep an erection firm enough for sex.

For the current study, the researchers wanted to learn more about the relationship between vitamin D and erectile dysfunction.
