Women’s Treatment with Oxytocin Could Help Male Partners, Too

Oxytocin treatment for hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) could benefit both female patients and their male partners, according to a study published in Fertility and Sterility.

Interestingly, the results seem to be independent of oxytocin itself. Instead, better communication between partners may be involved.

Oxytocin is a hormone that fosters intimacy in couples. Production can be triggered by a simple touch or hug, but much more is produced during orgasm.

The study included thirty heterosexual couples between the ages of 41 and 65 who had been together for at least two years. The longest partnership was 33 years. All of the women were being treated for HSDD – an unexplained drop in sex drive that causes distress.
