What inspired you to work in sexual medicine?
I was inspired initially to pursue sexual medicine through work with an early mentor, Dr. Michael Chancellor. During residency, my lab project involved exploring the role of the nerve growth factor gene therapy in post-prostatectomy erectile dysfunction. Serendipitously, I was introduced to Dr. John Mulhall, who was performing similar work in his lab and starting a new fellowship.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your career?
The most rewarding aspect of sexual medicine is that I can enhance the quality of life of my patients. An additional perk is that I get to stay current on new developments in endocrinology, cardiology, pharmacology, and psychology.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I play classical viola. Over the years, I have played in various amateur string quartets and community orchestras. Additionally, I am an avid martial artist.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
I have heard many excellent pieces of advice. My favorite is what my father calls "The 5 P's: Prior preparation prevents poor performance."
What would your ideal vacation be?
My ideal vacation is any place with good food and an easy-going culture. My family tends to enjoy a tropical beach vacation with lots of activities
