News Update: Telehealth Flexibilities Extended Under New Legislation

In a late-hour decision to avert a government shutdown, President Biden signed the “American Relief Act, 2025” into law. This legislation includes a critical extension of telehealth flexibilities, a key area of interest for healthcare professionals and patients alike.

The new bill extends telehealth provisions until March 2025.

For the time being, Urologists and providers can continue to offer telehealth services to Medicare beneficiaries similar to the pandemic flexibilities including:

  • New patient visits
  • Visits from home, not a healthcare facility
  • Similar reimbursement to in-person visits, determined by billing level/medical decision making

These policies directly affect patient care access and clinical operations across institutions, particularly in urology and sexual medicine fields.

This update underscores the importance of continued advocacy for stable telehealth legislation. SMSNA leadership encourages members to stay informed and engaged as discussions progress.
